THAILAND: Corrections Dept abruptly scraps jail tour for press

A Corrections Department plan to take the press on a visit to a temporary prison inside a military camp on Thursday was abandoned only 10 minutes after it was announced. The department told journalists covering the Justice Ministry about the press tour at noon on Wednesday, saying it had been arranged for 10am on Thursday so they could see for themselves the conditions within the jail which is inside  the 11th Army Circle in Dusit district. But just 10 minutes later, the plan was dumped by the department after it was contacted by deputy permanent secretary for justice Chanchao Chaiyanukij.
