THAILAND: Where there’s smoke, there’s fire

There’s no smoke without a fire, so it’s said. And smoke has been seen drifting from Rajabhakti Park, a new tourist destination near the popular resort town of Hua Hin.

Several people in the amulet trade have seen the smoke, and the media have the smell of it and are sniffing for the source.

And yet, the powers-that be at the Defence Ministry are insisting that everything smells sweet. The park is fine and crammed with tourists every weekend admiring the awesome giant statues of seven former kings. There is no smoke or fire, they say.
