Greenpeace takes aim at Thai Union

NGO alleges rights abuses in supply chain

Greenpeace Southeast Asia has called on Thai Union Group Plc, the world’s largest manufacturer of canned tuna, to halt alleged human rights abuses in the company’s tuna supply chain. However, the company yesterday brushed aside Greenpeace’s allegations, maintaining that all its business operations are undertaken legally and based on a code of conduct. Mark Dia, Greenpeace SEA’s regional oceans campaign coordinator, yesterday unveiled the organisation’s three-year report on human rights violations in the fishing industry in Indonesian waters, which alleged human right abuses and unfair labour  treatment by Thai Union’s suppliers.
