A construction contractor from Nan threatened to set himself alight in the Government House compound on Thursday afternoon to protest at the authorities’ delay in helping him with his loan-shark debt worth 700,000 baht.
It’s time to catch all the dirty loan sharks throughout Thailand, confiscate their dirty earned wealth / money and jail them as fast as possible! They are ruining the country!
The fact is that this case is just the tip of the iceberg. The problem of illegal lending is a deep-rooted and long-standing one in Thailand. Most complaints filed at Government House involve large “black-market” debts with exorbitant interest rates of up to 20 per cent a month. Debtors who fail to make payments are often attacked by hired collectors.
