Army chief upholds lese majeste law (Thailand)

Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha on Tuesday voiced opposition to amending royal insult offence as per Article 112 of the Criminal Code.

“Should anyone think the Thai law is unjust or harsh, then they should go and live abroad,” he said.

Prayuth said in his personal opinion, he disagreed with the permission for any debate on punishment for royal insult.

He was reacting to a call to amend the Article 112, seen as a gag on the freedom of expression.
